The McDougle Family Foundation, The City of Deerfield Beach and Broward County Public Schools team up for mentoring. Broward County Public Schools

Retired NFL Players Stockar and Jerome McDougle, The McDougle Family Foundation and Broward County Public Schools hosted their Mentoring Program meeting for Deerfield Beach Bison parents at Ovieta McKeithen Recreational Complex on Tuesday, July 11thThe Foundation is teaming up with Broward County Public Schools Department of Mentoring to help promote the Foundation’s mentoring initiative for the children enrolled in the Deerfield Beach Bison Youth and Cheer Program for kids ages 5 to 14 years old.  Wanda Robinson, Broward County Public Schools Specialist of Mentoring Programs joined the McDougle family in speaking to parents and children about the benefits of mentoring and how to get involved.  In addition to the Deerfield Beach Bison kids learning how to play a sport, they will also be mentored.  “Mentoring is so important and has a large impact on a child’s development. It is a community engagement program where coaches and parents have to work together for the child to be successful,” said Robinson.  Coaches and parents will both be provided with information through this partnership.

Orientation will take place on Monday, July 17th at 7:30 PM at the Ovieta McKeithen Recreational Complex.  Mentoring will begin Monday, July 24th and will take place every Monday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the gym.  Being a mentor is a crucial part of shaping well-rounded student athletes.  Those interested in volunteering as a mentor must complete an application and background check.   Desmond Cook, Director of The McDougle Family Foundation’s Mentoring Program adds “We are trying to teach the whole person, it’s not just book or class learning or on the field.  We want to equip the children with the tools necessary to flourish in life. “

The Deerfield Beach Bison Youth Sports Program is a youth sports program presented by the City of Deerfield Beach and The McDougle Family Foundation.  The McDougle Family Foundation mission is to build a team of role models and mentors that will bring stability to today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders by tutoring, mentoring and encouraging our youth to stay focused on their health, social skills and academics, while exposing them to appropriate career paths, higher education and healthy lifestyles.   The McDougle Family Foundation started from the vision of two bothers who are retired NFL Players Stockar and Jerome McDougle both played at rival high schools one Deerfield Beach High and the other Ely High.
